I had a 1990 Kawasaki EX-500 that was starting to require significant maintenance. Nothing major, but I found I was having a lot of little electrical problems: loose wires or connectors, corroded terminals etc. On a nice sunny day it was fine for riding, but I found that as a daily commuter it wasn't reliable - I'd try to start it up and spend ten minutes fussing to find out why the engine wasn't turning over, etc. It also needed fork seals, new tires, brakes, etc.
I decided to sell it and get a new reliable bike. The local dealership was having a sale and they were selling new Savages for less than the MSRP. I bought one.
I really like it. It is perfect for the city and the belt drive is excellent - virtually zero maintenance. So far 12,000 miles and no unusual maintenance or repairs.
